Ocelot Working Group
Mariam Weston is a sustainable development engineer with an MPhil in Conservation Leadership from the University of Cambridge. She founded and has coordinated the Ocelot Working Group since 2020, where she leads and oversees a portfolio of 16 conservation projects across Mexico and El Salvador. Her work focuses on reducing threats to small wild cats, particularly ocelots, margays, jaguarundis and bobcats, through monitoring, capacity building, community engagement and human–wildlife conflict mitigation. Several of these initiatives also contribute to the conservation of jaguars and pumas. Mariam has extensive experience working on human–wildlife conflict and coexistence and is particularly interested in the intersection of sustainability, community empowerment and practical approaches to threat mitigation. She also serves as Programme Officer for the IUCN SSC Human-Wildlife Conflict and Coexistence Specialist Group.
