I am a conservation biologist specialising in the conservation, monitoring and management of African lions and other large carnivores. I have more than a decade of experience in wild cat research and conservation, with a particular focus on population monitoring, survey methodologies, species status assessments and threats to large carnivores. I manage the African Lion Database (ALD) for the IUCN SSC Cat Specialist Group, working with researchers, conservation organisations and African Range States to strengthen the evidence base for lion conservation and management. My research has examined lion population status and distribution, survey methods, population vulnerability, human–lion conflict, and illegal killing and trade. I have authored more than 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications and contribute to IUCN Red List assessments and other regional and international initiatives supporting evidence-based conservation of Africa’s wild cats.
