Javier A. Pereira holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires and is an Independent Researcher at CONICET (Argentina). A member of the IUCN SSC Cat Specialist Group since 2005, he served as Associate Editor for South America for Cat News (2012–2016) and co-authored the book Felinos de Sudamérica. With over two decades of experience in conservation biology and applied ecology, his research focuses on the spatial ecology, demography, and conservation of Neotropical felids, particularly evaluating anthropogenic impacts in production landscapes. His work combines advanced monitoring technologies with field ecology to mitigate human-carnivore conflicts and promote wildlife persistence in human-dominated environments in species such as the Geoffroy’s cat (Leopardus geoffroyi), Uruguayan Pampas cat (Leopardus munoai), and puma (Puma concolor). Additionally, in collaboration with specialized research teams, he addresses population genetics and hybridization processes in other Neotropical felid species.
