Fernando Cesar Cascelli de Azevedo is a Brazilian biologist and researcher specializing in the ecology, behavior, and conservation of wild cat species. A member of the IUCN SSC Cat Specialist Group, he holds a doctorate in Fish and Wildlife Resources and serves as a professor in the Department of Natural Sciences at the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ). His extensive research centers on predator-prey dynamics, spatial organization, and human-wildlife conflict involving South American felids. Much of his work focuses on jaguars (Panthera onca) and pumas (Puma concolor), evaluating livestock depredation patterns, movement ecology, and population dynamics across biomes such as the Pantanal and the Atlantic Forest. Additionally, his publications cover other felids, such as ocelots (Leopardus pardalis) population ecology and notes on margay (Leopardus wiedii) behavior. Through his academic research and membership in international specialist groups, he contributes key scientific insights to advance regional wild cat conservation and management strategies.
