2012  Jurnal Sains dan Seni ITS (1): 48-53

The Sumatran tiger (_Panthera tigris sumatrae_) is the only subspecies of _Panthera tigris_ left in Indonesia. The subspecies is distributed only on the island of Sumatra. Sumatran tiger is Critically Endangered. Thus, there are ex-situ conservation programs with captive breeding in zoos or wildlife refuges, one of which is the Surabaya Zoo. This study aims to observe the daily behaviour and compare it with the literature. Sampling was performed in June 2012 with four individuals at Surabaya Zoo. Behaviours observed were eating, resting, social behaviour and others. On average, 74.9% of behaviours consisted of resting, social behaviour contributed 2.86%, eating 1.5%, and others 20.74%. In general, the daily behaviour of Sumatran tigers ex-situ did not differ from in situ behaviour in terms of the length of time of the activity, manner and behaviour in each activity.
