Calvete, C.
Status and evolution of rabbit populations - Identification of knowledge gaps
2004  Conference Proceeding

Since the outbreak of Hemorrhagic Disease in Spain in the late 80s and early 90s, the wild rabbit populations have suffered a considerable decrease in density as well as changes in their distribution. The monitoring of populations being carried out in some places in Spain as well as the findings of some research conducted indicate that wild rabbit populations have not yet reached a balance with the disease, and fourteen years after the first report of the disease in this country, populations continue evolving, both in terms of population density variation and geographical distribution. In this context, implementation and maintenance of consistent population monitoring programmes is essential for the future prospects of the species.
