Boosting lynx populations through reintroductions
2011  Full Book

The decline in numbers of the Iberian lynx (_Lynx pardinus) _has to a large extent been caused by habitat loss and fragmentation, as well as by decimation of rabbit populations in the Iberian peninsula following the outbreaks of myxomatosis in the 1960s and rabbit haemorrhagic disease in the 1980s. For this reason, conservation measures have focused on habitat connectivity and on increasing numbers of the cat's prey.
