After ten years, the wildcat (Felis s. silvestris SCHREBER 1775: Mammalia: Felidae) reappears in Carinthia
2007  Personal Communication

A road-killed male wildcat was collected near Feistritz an der Gail (Villach district, Carinthia) on 22. 01. 2006. The Authors make some consideration about the phenotypic determination of the specimen, confi rmed also by biomolecular analyses. This date marks the first information on the presence of the wildcat in Carinthia since 1996, and also the western locality recently reached by this species in southern Austria. The specimen, however, was probably a vagrant and its presence may be interpreted as a consequence of the recent range expansion of the species in northeastern Italy (Friuli Venezia Giulia).
