The eastern lynx
2007  Wild Cat News (May 2007): 1-4

Most people think of the Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis) as an animal of the boreal forests of Canada and the western states. In reality, one of the largest lynx populations in the continental United States occurs in the East. Maine is the only state in the Northeast that currently has a lynx population. Since 1999, biologists with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW) and United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) have conducted a radiotelemetry study on Canada lynx in northern Maine. Lynx are captured to equip them with radiocollars and to collect biological information. Radiocollared lynx are monitored from aircraft or by using GPS technology to document movements, habitat use, urvival, and reproduction.
