Rusty-Spotted Cat _Prionailurus rubiginosus_ (Geoffroy 1834)
1975  Book Chapter

Characteristics, distribution and habits of the rusty-spotted cat The rusty-spotted cat is nearly as small as the black-footed cat of South Africa. Its relationship to the leopard to the leopard cat is close enough to justify the inclusion of both species within the genus Prionailurus, but no interbreeding has ever been noticed in the areas where the two species overlap. The skull is short and rounded as in the leopard cat, but it has the nasal bones more distinctly narrowed, and the orbit of the eye completely encircled by bone. There are only two upper premolars in each jaw.
