Peters, G.
Coat colour and coat pattern of some felids (Mammalia, Carnivora)
1982  Bonner zoologische Beitraege (33): 19-31

This paper discusses the taxonomic and systematic significance of the polymorphism in coat colour and/or coat pattern in the following species resp. sub-species: jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouarondi), serval (Lepatilurus serval), African golden cat (Profelis aurata), Asian golden cat (Catopuma temmincki). A hypothesis how uniformly coloured and unpatterned coats could have evolved in the Felidae is explained in detail.
