Acceptance of the lynx: findings from a case study in the Bernese Oberland. The aim of this project was to find the reasons behind the acceptance or non-acceptance of the lynx in a valley in the Bernese Oberland.This region was selected because problems with the lynx were escalating and solutions were needed. The main factors influencing acceptance were how much the individual was affected and how good the communication between the different parties involved was. It turned out that farmers and hunters often felt they were not taken seriously by specialists and governmental authorities. Discussions have tended to be very emotional and not very objective. With an earlier information campaign, this probably could have been avoided. Another factor influencing the acceptance of the lynx is how people view nature. If they see nature as an opponent, they will be less likely to accept the lynx. If they see nature as a partner and humans as part of nature, then they will be more likely to accept the presence of the lynx.
