The cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus, used to frequent all the open areas of Africa and southwest Asia. Like its prey (mainly gazelles), captured after a brief pursuit, this cat has become very rare. In Morocco, we find the subspecies _hecki_, widespread in the whole of North Africa and the Sahara.
