Information on productivity and mortality rates is difficult to obtain for furbearers such as the lynx. If, however, age and sex can be ascertained by pelt characteristics, fur sales provide a readily available source fo data on population structure. We investigated relationships between lynx age and sex and the quality and value of pelts in north-eastern Ontario during 1979-82. Our objective was to identify pelt characteristics that relate to age or sex ratios in local populations. |
