Gallagher, P.
"Coo-wah-chobee" - The cultural significance of the Florida panther to native Americans
1994  Conference Proceeding

More than half of the Seminole Indians alive today are members of the Panther Clan. Susie Billy is the matriarch of the Panther Clan. She is said to be over 101 years old, and is known to all as a very powerful medicine woman. She spends much of her time searching through the Big Cypress countryside for special plants and herbs she uses in her medicine. She does not understand the English language, watches no T.V. and listens to no radio. She is not opinionated by the media or newspapers. She knows only of her people; the past, and what she sees today.
