Were the leopard cat and the sand cat among the ancestry of domestic cat races?

Since the beginning of modern cat breeding, aberrant races of the domestic cat have occasionally been suspected as having originated at least partially in wild species other than the predecessors of more normal domestic cats, that is, the wild cats of the lybica and ornata group of the species felis silvestris.
