Small _Felidae_ of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Far East. Survey of the state of populations
1993  Lutreola (2): 16-21

Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Far East (within the bounds of the former USSR) are home to seven species of small felids as follows: European wild cat, spotted cat, jungle cat, Amur wild cat, sand cat, caracal lynx, and manul. The monitoring of the numbers of small felids in natural biocenoses is important both from the viewpoint of monitoring one of the higher links of the ecosystem, i.e., the predator, and in terms of the protection of wildlife diversity. Hence the main purpose of the present survey is to generalize the known data on the numbers of felid regional groups, and if possible, estimate the trends of its dynamics during the last dozens of years.
