El-Mashjary, M.S.
The Arabian leopard, its habitat & prey in the Republic of Yemen Workshop on the Arabian Leopard (Panthera Pardus nimr), 15-16 October, 1995
1995  Conference Proceeding

The natural hometown of Arnold (The Yemeni Leopard) is Al-Wadi'a area, where under special agreement between the government of Yemen and the Arabian Leopard Trust of The Emirates, this Leopard was flown to the Emirates from Yemen. Al-Dhal'ain is one of the 20 villages that compromises Al-Wadi'a area. The major village of Al-Wadi'a is known to be Al-Gasem (16 deg, 00'N, 43 deg, 57'E, altitude 2380 m and 120 km. North of Sana'a) Al-Dhal'ain is situated on top of a steep gorge. The slopes and the bed of this steep gorge are relatively remote and people do not live there, except the tribesman who are grazing their goats and sheep during day time and by dusk they return back with their animals to their villages. The variety of vegetation in these slopes and the bed of the gorge and relatively lack of human settlements provide a home for a wide variety of fauna. The major mammal here is the Arabian Leopard, Panthera pardus nimr.
