Fenton, L.L.
The Kathiawar Lion
1910  Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society (19): 4-15

In spite of the fact that a certain amount of protection is accorded to Gir lions by the Junagadb Darbar, there cannot be the slightest doubt that they are gradually, but surely, approaching extinction. Not so very many years ago they were to be found in fairly considerable numbers in the country round Gwalior, Goona, Saugor, Khandeish. Jhansi and even as far eastward as Allahabad. The districts, ronnd Mount Abu, Deesa and Ahmedabad, along the banks of the Sabarmatti river as far as the Runn, were also favorite localities for them.
