Diversity of mammals in the forest of Canchaque District, Huancabamba-Piura

In the last decades, the knowledge about diversity of mammals in Peru has increased significantly, getting until the present 508 species of mammals, although there is no information on large mammals in cloud forests and equatorial dry forests. Because of that, the objective was to determine the diversity of mammals in the forest of the district Canchaque, Huancabamba - Piura. From September, 2014 to August, 2015 this study assesed the cloud forests of the zones Canchaque, Maraypampa, Coyona y los Ranchos, and the dry forests of the Canchaque zone. Direct and indirect methodology were used with the aim to record the existing populations of mammals in the forest. 501 individuals were recorded, with a richness of 25 species of mammals of which 18 were determined by a direct method and 7 species by an indirect method, the bats and rodents were the most representative groups, both with 7 species. Of all species reported, there are records of interest by being catalogued species within of the IUCN Red List, by peruvian law or finding in some of the appendices of CITES, include _Puma concolor_, _Lycalopex culpaeus_, _Thomasomys cf taczanowskii_.
