Characterization of environmental crimes of fauna in semi-arid Brasil
2018  Full Book

Committing environmental crimes against fauna has been a challenge for the maintenance of balance and sustainable biodiversity management. Such a situation involves directly the use of wildlife in situations of illegal trafficking and trade, captive and slaughter to promote the consumption of "exotic meat". Thus, the present work aimed to characterize the seizures of in the Brazilian semi-arid regions. To this do, a bibliographic study was carried out and documentary documents, the latter from the Environmental Infringement Notices made by the ibama, from 2006 to 2017, in the municipalities that make up the semi-arid bahian and Pernambuco. In addition, 215 slaughtered whole animals (6.9 kg of meat), 2 skins and 2 carcasses were recorded in the seizures. Of the species seized and identified 14 were birds, 6 mammals presenting threat according to the IUCN. Twenty-two species of birds, 11 mammal species and 6 reptile species cited in CITES appendices were also identified. In the semi-arid region of Pernambuco alone, the results identified the manufacture of 592 Environmental Infraction by IBAMA in 76 municipalities in the semi-arid region of Pernambuco. The case generated fines in the amount of R $ 24,142,800.00. Animals totaled 12,894 live animals, of which 3,053 were not classified by their species. We identified 9,416 birds, 132 mammals, 146 reptiles and 147 fighting roosters. In addition, 1672 whole animals were recorded 2 _Puma concolor _legs and 2 horns of _Mazama gouazoubira_. Among the seized and identified species, 16 birds, 2 mammals and 2 reptiles present threat of extinction, according to the IUCN. In addition, 30 species of birds, 7 species mammals and 6 species of reptiles were identified in cites appendages. Previous studies in the semi-arid indicate that animals have a strong relationship such as way of life in the semi-arid, however, birds are the most hunted group, especially for national and international trade in bird trafficking. Mammals and reptiles are used both for the trade in live animals and exotic meats, as well as for considered risks to crops and domestic animals. So, investments in environmental surveillance, especially in IBAMA in the semi-arid, additionally environmental education and ecotourism are needed to minimise impacts of the illegal use of animals.
