Construction of wildlife passages on highways for the survival of wild animals
2018  Full Book

The passages of fauna are corridors that cross large highways and allow the displacement of animals that live in the forests in their surroundings, without the danger of roadkill. On these roads, there are many accidents between animals and auto-vehicles, and to reduce these events, vegetation-filled passages have been built increasing the safety of both. The efficiency of the passage of fauna depends on the characteristics of the roads, location and dimensions of these structures. These passages are also known as ecoducts, green bridges and wildlife viaducts, and are already present in many places around the world such as Banff National Park in Canada, Wests Hoeve and The Borkeld in the Netherlands, Boeblingen in Germany, Montana, in the United States, Christmas Island, Australia among others. Built on highways that through natural reserves, the ecoducts allow animals to move safely in their habitats, as well as reducing carbon emissions from vehicles and urban centers. The objective of this work is to emphasize the huge impact that road construction that cuts forests can have on the lives of wild animals, and the importance of jointly planning ecoduct constructions, preventing in large numbers of traffic accidents and deaths on roads with high traffic of cars.
