Roadkills of wild vertebrates on four highways in the Cerrado, Mato Grosso, Brazil
2018  Multi-Science Journal (1): 62-74

The magnitude, composition and mortality patterns of wild vertebrates were evaluated, from the collision with vehicle on roads in the Cerrado. Even though they are close, these differ in the time they are paved, traffic volume, landscape and quality of asphalt cover. A total of 483 deaths were recorded out of 108 spp. Of the individuals run over in these four highways, 7% are amphibians, 15% reptiles, 11% birds and 67% mammals. The road kills can be considered high when compared to other highways in the Cerrado, which causes loss of faunistic diversity, including endemic species of this biome and endangered species. Thus, this paper presents sufficient data for mitigation measures that are suggested for these highways as it lists the species affected with the objective of subsidizing decision-making aimed at conserving wildlife, especially located in the damping area of the Serra das Araras Ecological Station, an important conservation in the southwestern state of Mato Grosso.
