Is the European wildcat (_Felis silvestris_) back in Austria?
2021  S„ugetierkundliche Informationen (12): 51-62

The European wildcat was listed as extinct in the Austrian Red List of Mammals in 1989. However, there are occasionally individuals turning up. Most reports come from Carinthia and Lower Austria. Of special interest was a dead male found in 2013 in the Wachau in Lower Austria. After that, monitoring was intensified and generated repeatedly new records. With the increase in camera trap pictures from the Wachau, research was intensified. Here we present all current records from the Wachau and discuss the current status of the wildcat in Austria.
