Rusty-spotted cat: Distribution account of _Prionailurus rubiginosus_ (Carnivora: Felidae) with comments on unusual irregularity observed in Gujarat, India
2018  Zoo's Print (33): 10-18

The unusual presence of these rusty bands on the cats' tails further indicate two possibilities; firstly, a result of interbreeding between Rusty-spotted Cat (RSC) and feral/domestic cats, and secondly a possibility of sub-speciation. On the basis of data collected during the study, authors could surmise upon the existence of a hybrid cats - relating to the cats, which had 6-8 rusty coloured bands on their tails thus not being pure bred wild RSC animals. Such hybridization is a likely to be caused when RSC breed with domestic cats.
