The Sundarbans Tiger Reserve, occupying an area of 2,585 km2 supports rich flora of grasses, herbs, shrubs, climbers, palms and trees, and fauna consisting of many wild animals now protected, such as the royal Bengal tiger _Panthera tigris_, and several inter-tidal animals. The conservation measures adopted reduced the man-tiger confrontation in the area.
