Of the only endemic cat species in China
2010  Cat News (Special Issue 5): 18-21

The Chinese mountain cat is endemic to China and has a very limited distribution. Very little to no information exists regarding the status or abundance of this elusive Chinese species. Although it has been widely reported across western China, many records are unconfirmed, or have been shown to be misidentified or erroneous by He et al. (2004). These authors examined museum specimens and reports from across China and concluded that the only confirmed specimens of the Chinese mountain cat came from the eastern and north-eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau in Qinghai and Sichuan.
