Wildkatzenforschung im Nationalpark Thayatal
2018  Wissenschaftliche Mitteilungen Nieder”sterreichisches Landesmuseum (21): 454

While working on a research project from 2006 to 2010 it could be proved that the seemingly exterminated wild cat is re-colonizing some areas Thayatal National Park. Raw pegs prepared with valerian were used as wildcats show a preference for the smell. The valerian pegs were regularly controlled. When rubbing on the pegs some hairs got caught and could be used for genetic examination. These hair samples could be collected and analyzed several times and thus show that the wildcat is colonizing its former habitat in Austria again.
