The safety net for the European wildcat - reconnecting Germany's forests
2018  Conference Proceeding

For the benefit of agriculture, settlements, streets and railway lines, natural areas are severely impacted in Germany. This leads to highly fragmented habitats and habitat loss, which are the main threats to wildlife in Germany. European Wildcat (_Felis silvestris silvestris_), Red Deer (_Cervus elaphus_), European Badger (_Meles_ _meles_) and European Lynx (_Lynx lynx_) increasingly live in isolated areas. This leads to genetic isolation, a heavy constraint on the (re)expansion of threatened species and little habitat available for species with spacious habitat requirements.
