News about Pallas's cat in Iran
2018  Conference Proceeding

The project titled "Preliminary Status Assessment of the Pallas's Cat in Central Alborz, Iran" aims to determine the status of Pallas's Cat _Otocolobus manul_ in Iran's Central Alborz Mountains for future conservation planning. The study area stretches over 231,920 ha in Jajroud Reserve including Khojir and Sorkheh Hesar National Parks, to KouhSefid and Kavdeh NoHunting Areas. Between December 2016 and March 2017, we interviewed 41 local people including rangers, herders, farmers, mountaineers and former poachers to identify potential habitat of the species and its prey. Also, we set up camera traps in 25 stations for a total of 740 cameratrap days based on the habitat survey and outcomes of the interviews. A random sign survey was conducted during this time as well, and coordinates of signs of the species such as pugmarks and scat were determined using a GPS device.
