A tale of tails - an attempt to decipher small cat distribution by tail lengths
2018  Conference Proceeding

India's geographical location at the confluence of major biogeographical realms, along with myriad ecosystems, has facilitated colonisation events in the past. This is especially apparent in the Felidae with 15 extant representatives in the country, perhaps the highest in the world. Nine felid species occur in the Eastern Himalayas, and most places in this region harbour a guild of four species: Clouded Leopard_ Neofelis nebulosa_, Marbled Cat _Pardofelis marmorata_, Asian Golden Cat _Catopuma temminckii_, and Leopard Cat _Prionailurus bengalensis_.
