Conservation of fishing cat and rusty-spotted cat in the northern Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh, India

The Eastern Ghats are a discontinuous chain of mountains running along the east coast of South India with a variety of associated habitats such as dry deciduous forests, riparian buffers, inland freshwater bodies, tropical mangroves, and grasslands. The four different species of small wild cats inhabiting the Eastern Ghats are Fishing Cat _Prionailurus viverrinus_, Rusty-spotted Cat _P. rubiginosus_, Leopard Cat _P. bengalensis_ and Jungle Cat_ Felis chaus_ (Kantimahanti and Surampudi 2016). Both species are protected legally in India under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
