Since the publication of the Provisional Atlas in 1978, a good deal of work has been done on the distribution of the mammals, and many new records have been received by the organiser. However, some species are still badly under-recorded, especially small mammals and bats. This set of maps has been produced as a final stimulus to recorders. The recording scheme has been running since 1965; it will soon be time to call a halt and assess the future of mammal recording. The present scheme will end in 1985 and final maps will be published as soon as possible, probably in 1986. |
