Rela‡äes de peso e sua importƒncia na coexistˆncia de felinos em remanescente de Mata Atlƒntica, Paran , Brasil
2011  Full Book

This study aimed to record the species of cats from the Forest State Park SÆo Francisco, collect data regarding the diet, to analyze the importance of the relationship of weight (biomass) in their coexistence, and establish whether a correlation exists between the size of predator and the size of their prey. Used five different methodologies: i) Linear transects, ii) Active search for traces, iii) Sand plots, iv) Camera trap, and v) analysis of scats. Five species were recorded, belonging to two generes: Leopardus pardalis, Leopardus tigrinus, Leopardus wiedii, Puma yaguaroundi, Puma concolor. The wild cats showed great divergence in their biomass compared, and a strong correlation between weight and the weight of their prey, in other words, the higher the biomass predators are their preys, demonstrating the importance of this divergence to allow the coexistence of these species without there is competitive exclusion. When present approximate weight, evolutionary mechanisms tend to generate differentiation in other dimensions of the niche, such as the differential use of habitat (space) and / or changes in their activity period (time).
