Importance of regional initiatives for the consolidation of a National jaguar conservation strategy: the case of Mexico (Importancia de las iniciativas regionales para la consolidaci¢n de una estrategia nacional de conservaci¢n de jaguar: el caso M‚xico))
2013  Book Chapter

The jaguar's survival can only be ensured by applying a set of actions, such as habitat protection, conservation and reduced prey human-jaguar conflict. This requires having solid scientific information to make better management decisions on a species that is distributed almost throughout Latin America. We discuss the implementation of a National Strategy for Jaguar Conservation in Mexico, which aims to ensure the viability of jaguar populations in this country. The Strategy is the instrument that dictates what the goals, mechanisms and actions to be taken in the short, medium and long term, involving the participation of scientists, conservationists, government and private enterprise to ensure the conservation of jaguar populations in Mexico.
