Occurrence of Geoffroy's cat in the Igua‡u region, Brazil: Surprise or inevitable result?

Geoffroy's cats _Leopardus geoffroyi _are known to be associated with open areas and shrub lands in South America. Yet, a Geoffroy's cat was found in the Upper Paran  Atlantic Forest Eco-region, near Foz do Igua‡u, Brazil. Later, DNA analyses conducted on feces samples in the same area reinforced the evidence of the concealed presence of the species. We discuss here the possible reasons of its occurrence in this region.
