Biodiversity conservation on private land: an example of carnivores (Conservando biodiversidad en tierras privadas: el ejemplo de los carn¡voros)
2002  Ambiente y Desarrollo (8): 51-59

The conversion and loss of habitat are the most significant threats to a number of species. Their protection through protected habitat is one necessary condition however this is not sufficient to assure their survival and to maintain the original biodiversity. Generally, the designated protected national areas -like the SNASPE- are too small to contain viable populations of vertebrates. For them, the use of private land is needed to maintain large populations and reduce the extinction probability.
