I am a field ecologist and conservationist. I use techniques of mud-and-boots field biology vis-à-vis foraging theory to illustrate ecological patterns and processes. My work on vigilance behavior of Himalayan tahr, for instance, helped discover its predator, the snow leopard, and its whereabouts on Mt. Everest. On the frontier of competition, I am interested to use the theories of habitat selection, and show how intra- and inter-specific competition can be used to understand habitat partition among mammals and their coexistence. Currently I teach ecology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
