My speciality is animal ecology. I study the ecology and conservation of the leopard cat, two insular populations in Japan, Prionailurus bengalensis iriomotensis and P. b. euptilurus. Our research team is comprised of university researchers, post-doctoral researchers, students, and the researchers belonging to government organizations and private companies. Our team has conducted the ecological, veterinary and conservational research since the 1980’s, and based on the results we changed the conservational opinions of governments. Recent problems for our leopard cats are the traffic accidents, introduced cats and dogs, and disturbance of habitats by tourists.
