Urs BREITENMOSER, Co-chair IUCN/SSC Cat Specialist Group
I
am a
senior researcher at the University of Bern (Institute of Veterinary Virology)
and the leader of the programme KORA since 1996. I am involved in research
projects on carnivore ecology for 25 years and have supervised many master and
doctoral theses in the frame of the Swiss carnivore projects. My main field of
activity is the reintroduction of Eurasian lynx and the re-integration of this
large carnivore into human dominated landscapes. I am integrated in many research and conservation
programmes all over the world, and, as a carnivore and rabies specialist, involved in European projects on rabies epidemiology.

Christine BREITENMOSER-WÜRSTEN,
Co-chair IUCN/SSC Cat SG
I
am
programme co-ordinator and administrative director of KORA. My professional
background is ornithology, mammology, running water ecology, and genetics. I
am currently involved in research projects on ecology and genetics of
the Eurasian lynx, looking at population genetics of
reintroduced populations. Through these projects I gained
experience in molecular methods, GIS, web design and
desktop publishing, which are important resources for
our work as co-chairs of the Cat SG.

Peter JACKSON, Adivsor to the
Chair and Editor of Cat News
I have been involved in wildlife
conservation, especially the tiger and other wild cats, for over 30 years. My
interest arose during 18 years as Chief Correspondent of Reuters Newsagency in
India. In 1970 I joined WWF as Director of Information. I also became Project
Officer for WWF's Operation Tiger and worked closely with specialists in India
who launched the government's Project Tiger. In 1983 I was invited to
chair the IUCN/SSC Cat Specialist Group, a position I held until retirement in
2000.

Manuela von ARX, Assistant to the Chair
I graduated at the
Institute of Zoology, University of Bern with a diploma thesis on chamois Rupicapra
rupicapra behaviour and joined KORA in June 2001 to assist in the Cat
Specialist Group’s members and friends administration. I was responsible for
conducting the Pan-European survey and information platform on the status and
conservation of the Eurasian lynx in Europe (“ELOIS”), a tool that is currently
developed for wolverine, brown bear and wolf, as well. I am involved in
different conservation projects of which the recovery programme for the Balkan
lynx is the most important (coordination, information, communication, capacity
building) and take care, among other things, of the maintenance of both the
Balkan Lynx and Iberian Lynx Conservation Compendia.

Kristin NOWELL
In
2009 I celebrate my 20th anniversary as a Cat
SG member. I have supported the Group's work by helping
compile its 1996 Cat Action Plan, and since 1994 coordinate
cat classification on the IUCN Red List of Threatened
Species. I have worked on many different aspects
of cat conservation, including conservation planning,
anti-poaching, community partners, fund-raising, status
assessments, and cheetah ecology in Namibia's Etosha
National Park. In 1995 I established CAT (Cat Action
Treasury) to support Cat Group members and priorities.
I am an expert on the tiger bone medicinal trade,
and serve as advisor to the wildlife trade monitoring
network TRAFFIC. I have lived in China as well as Africa,
and travel widely from my solar-powered home base
in the Maine woods.
