The Cat Specialist Group is a non-profit organization and needs to secure the total of its operational and project funds by fundraising. This is only possible with the help from our friends and supporting partners.
Over the years, the Cat Specialist Group has received financial and in-kind contributions from many foundations, organizations and individuals who share our dedication to save the world’s 38 wild living cat species.
The IUCN/SSC Cat Specialist Group currently includes 201 of the world's leading wildlife managers, scientists and conservation experts on wild living cat species in 57 countries throughout the world. Through its engagement, the Cat SG ensures availability of a worldwide and up-to-date scientific base of information and contributes to the long-term conservation of wild cat species:
- within the World Conservation Union (IUCN), the Cat SG is a member of the Species Survival Commission (SSC) and as such provides species assessments for the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM;
- the Cat SG advises government that are party to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) on cat species issues;
- throughout the world, the Cat SG provides education and training programs to support much needed expansion of expert capacities for research, monitoring and conservation of wild living cat species;
- by providing and managing the Digital Cat Library, various online compendia and a comprehensive online project database, the Cat SG offers a central hub of specialized information for all stakeholders involved. Through its official newsletter Cat News, the Cat SG periodically publishes up-to-date information around topics of interest.
