Ph.D. in 1989 and D.Sc. in 2008. Involved in wildlife survey and conservation for the last four decades in northeastern India and also Bhutan. Positions held included Deputy Secretary and Joint Secretary in the Environment & Forest Dep., Secretary, Development Commissioner and Divisional Commissioner under government of Assam. Was also Deputy Commissioner, Baksa district, where the famous Manas Tiger reserve is located. Now retired from Indian Administrative Service. Founder Chief Executive of The Rhino Foundation for Nature in NE India (NGO) since 1995. Member of the State Board for Wildlife, the highest policy-making official body in Assam. Publications are 28 books & monographs, 51 unpublished reports and 900+ articles. These publications covered many important cats and their habitats in the region.
