From the Wild "Captivating Corbett Tiger Reserve"
1991  Personal Communication

Article on the history of the Corbett Tiger Reserve. In 1936, it became India's first National Park under the United Provinces National Parks Act. Originally named the Hailey National Park (after Sir Malcolm Hailey, Governor of the then United Provinces, who was instrumental in developing the area as a preserve), after Indian Independence, it became the Ramganga National Park, named after the scenic river that flows through almost the entire length of the Park. Finally, in 1957 it was named Corbett National Park, in honour of the late Jim Corbett, slayer of man-eating tigers and leopards, author, and later a consultant to demarcate the limits of the proposed Park.
